The NFC playoff picture is far from taking shape, but there’s a decent enough chance that the Vikings could face the Washington Redskins if both teams advance to the postseason.
If it happens, ex-Vikings running back Adrian Peterson would love the opportunity to end his former team’s season.
“It would be exciting. I can definitely say that,” Peterson told 106.7 The Fan in Washington, D.C. “It would definitely be an exciting matchup. A lot of those guys that’s there still, I played with those guys before. It’s a great organization. Hopefully, it would be at home here, so get those guys out here in the chilly weather outside. But it would be fun to knock them out of the playoffs.”
Washington is fully capable of beating the Vikings, but based on the way Minnesota’s defense has played in recent weeks, especially against the run, we’re not sure Peterson would have very much fun.
The Vikings have allowed just 3.3 yards per carry (384 yards on 114 carries) against their last five opponents – Eagles, Cardinals, Jets, Saints, Lions – and the last four have failed to gain more than 270 yards of total offense.
Peterson, in his first season with Washington after spending 2017 with the Saints and Cardinals, is fifth in the NFL with 604 rushing yards with four touchdowns.
If the playoffs started today, the Vikings would face the Bears in the Wild Card round while the Redskins would host the Panthers.
A Vikings-Redskins playoff matchup will also pit Kirk Cousins against his former team.
