Multiple reports say that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will not attend Vikings organized team activities (OTAs) when they get underway on Tuesday.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press quotes a source who says Peterson will stay away from the voluntary workouts but the reason is not clear.
Peterson had been unhappy with what he considered a lack of support from within the Vikings’ organization while he addressed child abuse charges last season.
Peterson has informed Vikings coach Mike Zimmer that he will not be attending the OTAs and will remain in Texas, a source tells the Associated Press.
Peterson missed 15 games last season because of the child-abuse incident, but was reinstated on April 15.
According to the Pioneer Press, Peterson is not required to attend the OTAs, but he will forego a $250,000 workout bonus if he does not take part in 90 percent of the upcoming OTAs and minicamps.
The first mandatory activity for players is a minicamp on June 16-18.
Peterson, 30, has three years left on his contract with the Vikings, which is worth more than $44 million, the Pioneer Press notes. The team has said it has no plans to trade Peterson.
The Vikings begin training camp at the end of July, and their first preseason game is Aug. 9 against Pittsburgh in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.
