Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been the subject of a lot of rumors, conjecture and ridicule since his indictment on child abuse charges last fall.
He missed most of last season, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor, sat out on the commissioner’s list, was the subject of a suspension from the NFL and has been involved with the subsequent court fight.
There have been trade rumors, contract rumblings and even a Twitter rant about NFL player contracts. In essence, there’s been a lot of negative media surrounding the 2012 NFL MVP for the better part of the year.
So when we saw this story on Peterson, we thought it was a nice breath of fresh air.
Peterson took time out from the pressures of his situation to sneak in a Texas AAU girls basketball game. According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, AP, his wife Ashley and uncle Chris Smith went to watch his AD Elite AAU team take on China’s traveling prep squad.
Peterson helps finance the team, which with Peterson in the stands pulled out a dramatic 55-54 overtime victory over China’s squad. Peterson had an inspirational message for the players on the team after the game.
Great win today young ladies! Not matter what you encounter in life, keep God 1st, work HARD & success will follow! https://t.co/shujBdhelw

While it doesn’t mean that Peterson will be ending all of the conjecture by reporting to Vikings camp, Yahoo says it’s clear the running back’s family is ready for the saga to be over and suggests a conclusion might be near.
Pro Football Talk notes it sounds like Vikings coach Mike Zimmer is leaving the door open that Peterson could return for OTAs.
“I’ve also read that Adrian told me that he wasn’t coming to OTAs, which is completely false,” Zimmer said. “I know there’s a lot of things that are out there. I don’t know when he’s coming. We’ll just leave it at that.”
