Adrian Peterson and Cris Carter are two of the best to ever play in the NFL, and the former Minnesota Vikings aren’t seeing eye-to-eye right now.
The negativity started brewing when Carter, the Hall of Fame wide receiver, publicly ripped Peterson’s decision to continue his NFL career when he signed with the Washington Redskins.
“Did you see me in a Dolphins uniform? I had no business playing that season,” said Carter on FS1. “I wouldn’t have admitted it, either. Adrian had better get over himself. We were all great. But at the end, we all smelled like a baby’s diaper.”
Peterson heard about Carter’s comments and said it hurt him to the core, according to USA Today, and on Wednesday he joined Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio for even more of a response to Carter’s words.
“I don’t know what it is with him. I have no clue, I can’t pinpoint and put my hand on one thing. We played different positions,” said Peterson. “I don’t know, maybe it’s because I got more career yards than him at Minnesota. I don’t know what it is. I haven’t wrapped my mind around it but at the end of the day, he’s one person and I just try to block him out and just whatever it is what it is.”
Notice Peterson’s shot back at Carter about career yards in Minnesota? In 12 seasons with the Vikings, Carter had 1,004 receptions for 12,384 yards and 110 touchdowns. Peterson, in 10 seasons with the purple, had 13,692 combined rushing and receiving yards (11,747 rushing yards) and 102 touchdowns (97 rushing).
Peterson said the fact that he and Carter played for the Vikings makes it “more personal,” and that he would’ve preferred that Carter reach out for some personal information rather than jumping in front of a camera and ripping him on nationally TV.
“If you wanted to reach me for anything you can do that, you know, but you decided just to go on your own merit and come up with your own conclusions for different things and make all these foul comments about me,” said Peterson.
“I’m not really into trying to break people down and beat people down with negative talk but you have some people that are like that and you just gotta continue to push forward no matter what the naysayers have to say about you.”
