Adrian Peterson is laughing off the sideline exchange he had with Saints head coach Sean Payton in Monday’s loss to the Vikings, but he’s not giggling about his lack of playing time.
“I didn’t sign up for nine snaps, though, but unfortunately that’s the way the game played out,” Peterson said Thursday, via the New Orleans Advocate. “In my mind, personally, I knew it was gonna take some adjusting. You know, me and Mark played in the last preseason game, AK didn’t even play that game. So with all three of us being out there, I knew it would take a game or so to kind of get adjusted.”
The Saints were in catch-up mode most of the game, which might be why AK’s (Alvin Kamara) snaps were so much higher than Peterson. But Kamara and Mark Ingram played far more than Peterson.
Of 62 offensive plays, Kamara was on the field for 31 of them, Ingram for 26 and Peterson nine.
Peterson thinks he’ll get more time going forward, and his lack of playing time didn’t take away any of his confidence.
“I can get it started at any point in the game,” Peterson added, according to NFL.com. “So I’m not that type of guy. I can take it the distance on the first play, I’ve done that in the past before. Just whenever it’s in my hands, I know that’s an opportunity to take it to the house.”
