No timetable has been set for Adrian Peterson’s return to the Vikings but it’s probably safe to say he won’t be back for several months.
The Vikings announced that Peterson underwent successful surgery Thursday morning to repair the torn meniscus in his right knee. Head coach Mike Zimmer spoke Wednesday and wasn’t sure how much time Peterson would miss because he wasn’t certain the surgeon would perform a full repair or a trim of the meniscus.
The result today, however, says Peterson had the meniscus fully repaired, meaning a much longer recovery time.
“Adrian Peterson had a successful lateral meniscus repair this morning. The surgery was performed by team physician Chris Larson at Twin Cities Orthopedics. There were no additional injuries or issues noted in or surrounding the knee joint during the surgical procedure. The rehabilitation process will begin immediately.”
How long Peterson will be out is up for debate, but the common opinion from NFL media is that the earliest he could return is in 3-4 months. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport says it’s possible Peterson could return for a December playoff push.
Peterson will be 32 years old in March and due to make $18 million in 2017.
