Fans who were hoping to see Adrian Peterson play during the first Vikings game at U.S. Bank Stadium Sunday against San Diego will have to wait a little longer.
The veteran All-Pro running back has decided that he will not play during the preseason.
Peterson didn’t play in either of the first two games, and the fourth one is usually left for the younger players battling for a roster spot, so Sunday seemed like the most likely time that AP might suit up – but that won’t happen.

Peterson hasn’t played in a preseason game since 2013, he hasn’t carried the ball in a preseason game since 2011 – that was the year he tore his ACL.
According to the Star Tribune, Peterson called it a “mutual decision,” but added that if he really didn’t want to play he didn’t think the team would have forced him to.
That means the first chance fans will have to see AP on the field in the brand new stadium will be in Week 2 when the Vikings host Green Bay.
