Twins center fielder Aaron Hicks won’t join the team on its five-game road trip to Cleveland and Miami.
Hicks is eligible to return from the disabled list June 25 — next Tuesday, but the Twins have elected to keep him in Minnesota until he begins a rehab assignment, which could come as soon as Monday, according to the Pioneer Press.
Hicks will likely play a few games at Triple-A Rochester before being recalled to the Twins.
Clete Thomas has started in center field since Hicks strained his hamstring on June 9, and he’s done quite well. The former Tigers outfielder had a pair of hits including a home run in Minnesota’s 8-4 win over the White Sox Thursday.
