Spring training is on the horizon for the Twins as pitchers and catchers report to Fort Myers, Florida on Feb. 13 with the full team going Feb. 19.
Earlier this week Byung Ho Park was outrighted off the 40-man roster which means the DH position is up for grabs in the everyday lineup.
Earlier this month the Twins had ties to Mike Napoli, but the bopper ended up signing with the Texas Rangers despite the Twins offering more money.
According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, the Twins are still seeking a bat in the middle of their order.
Here’s three free agents that could land with the Twins before Opening Day.
Pedro Alvarez
Heyman notes that the Twins have talked to Alvarez during the offseason. Alvarez spent last season with the Baltimore Orioles after six years with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The left-handed bat has averaged 27 home runs since 2012. He made just $5.7 million last season, so he won’t command a hefty price tag.
The knock on Alvarez is that he strikes out a ton. Over a full season, he averages 172 strikeouts.
Adam Lind
Thirty-three year old Adam Lind has smacked 186 home runs over his 11-year career.
Since 2014, he’s bounced around between the Toronto Blue Jays, Milwaukee Brewers and the Seattle Mariners but he’s a more disciplined hitter than Alveraz.
Since 2013, he’s slashed .279/.345/.467, while averaging just 85 strikeouts per season.
Justin Morneau
At Twins Fest in January, there were reports that Justin Morneau could return to Minnesota. Morneau played in 11 seasons with the Twins, smacking 221 home runs during his tenure.
He played with the Chicago White Sox last season but he didn’t sign with the team until June.
Although concussions and injuries have kept him off the field, he still slugged .473 over the last three seasons.
