The Gophers will break ground on a new $166 million Athletes Village the day before Halloween.
The Friday, Oct. 30 ceremony at the Bierman Complex will be the official start of a construction project that will start and finish in an approximate two-year period.
Gophers Athletes Village will feature a 60,000-square-foot Center for Excellence, which will be the home for an academic center, nutrition center and leadership center. Every Gopher student-athlete can use it.
The Village will include a new practice facility for men’s and women’s basketball and another for football. The Gibson-Nagurski and Bierman buildings will also receive renovations.
“Getting the Athletes Village project to this point, from a vision for the future of Gopher Athletics to a reality that will take shape over the next two years, demanded countless hours of work from a great number of people,” Interim Director of Athletics Beth Goetz said in a statement. ”
