Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen plans to have surgery to repair a partially torn labrum in his shoulder sometime after he plays in the Pro Bowl in Hawaii, the Pioneer Press reports.
“I played the whole year,” he told the newspaper. “I’m going to enjoy the Pro Bowl. I figure I’ll at least get some warm weather and a pseudo-free vacation.”
Allen, 30, led the defense with 12 sacks in 2012. This is the first time he has needed a surgical procedure during his NFL playing career.
ESPN 1500 notes Allen was first placed on the injury list with a shoulder issue in November.
Minnesota’s season ended Saturday with a one-and-done playoff appearance, losing to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, 24-10.
