Mazur pitched six innings of one-run ball in his first career start on Tuesday.
Adam Mazur has made it big in the big leagues.
The former Woodbury High School standout made his MLB debut for the San Diego Padres Tuesday night, and while the Padres fell to the Los Angeles Angels, 4-2, at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., Mazur shined in his first major league outing.
Mazur pitched six innings of one-run ball, allowing just two hits while fanning a pair.
If that’s any indication, he can probably plan on staying in the majors for a while.
Mazur, 23, is the No. 5-ranked prospect in the Padres organization and was called up to the big league club for the first time. This season, he’s split his time between Double and Triple-A, starting 10 total games between the two and posting a 3.86 earned-run average with 50 strikeouts across 51 1/3 innings of work.
Mazur graduated from Woodbury High School back in 2019. During that senior season, Mazur was named to the Star Tribune’s All-Metro team after recording an 8-2 record with a 0.50 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 72 innings pitched.
Mazur first went to South Dakota State for college before transferring to Iowa.
Mazur was selected by the Padres No. 53 overall in the 2022 MLB draft.
