After 17 seasons in the big leagues the Twins still can’t figure out Andy Pettitte. The Yankees’ left-hander threw six shutout innings to lead New York to a 6-3 win at Target Field Monday night. The Bronx Bombers hit four home runs, all off of Liam Hendriks.
Nick Swisher got the home run party started with a two-run shot in the first inning off of Liam Hendriks. Curtis Granderson added a solo homer in the second and Raul Ibanez and Eric Chavez added solo shots in the seventh.
Denard Span and Pedro Florimon led the Twins with two hits each. Florimon’s second hit was his first career home run — a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth inning. Chris Parmelee added a two-out, two-run triple in the bottom of the ninth to make the score a little closer.
Hendriks’ final line was 6.1 innings, 8 hits, 6 earned runs, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts.
The loss was the Twins’ 90th of the season.
