The Yankees beat the Twins, 6-5 Friday afternoon at Target Field.
New York jumped starter Kyle Gibson with three runs in the first and second innings to bolt out of the gates to a 6-1 lead.
Gibson was replaced in the third inning, and Minnesota’s bullpen held strong the remaining seven frames. Samuel Deduno fired 4 2/3 scoreless innings to stop the bleeding.
But it was too late. Minnesota actually rallied to make it a 6-5 game after three innings, but the Yankee bullpen held strong, too.
Brian Dozier led off the game with his 16th homer of the season and Chris Colabello slugged a home run in his first at-bat at the big league level since May 23.
