On the day Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez drew a 211-game suspension for steroid use, Appleton, Wis., shot back.
A plaque featuring A-Rod’s name that had adorned a local youth sports complex since 2003, has been stripped from the premises, according to the Appleton Post-Crescent.
Appleton had a special place in its heart for the Rodriquez, because that’s where he played Class A baseball on his way to the major leagues.
In 65 games for the Appleton Foxes in 1994, A-Rod hit hit .319 with 14 homers and 55 RBI before being promoted to Class AA Jacksonville.
According to the Post-Crescent: “During his time in Appleton, Rodriguez was considered a model citizen and drew huge crowds.”
