It could happen.
World Wrestling Entertainment is reportedly meeting with the NFL Players Association today in hopes of creating an agreement that would funnel those who can’t cut it in the NFL … to try their hand at sports entertainment.
WWE announcer Jim Ross told Sirius radio last night that “everybody doesn’t make the 53-man roster” …. and “we’ve got some job openings.”
It’s not as outlandish as you might think.
Pro wrestling has a long history of employing NFL players, with Minnesota native Lesnar getting a high-profile tryout with the Vikings a few years ago:

As for that “we can’t mix real sports with fake sports” argument, well, the NFL has already blurred that line to the extreme this week when it was revealed that the league might add “game show elements” to the ratings-poor Pro Bowl.
