Some Vikings fans were decidedly not fans of a new policy that limits the bags that they can carry into games at the Metrodome.
KARE 11 reports there were lines at a checkpoint at the pre-season game on Friday night. Fans could check their bags at the gate and pick them up after the game. Some were less than thrilled with the new security rules.
“I think they’re ridiculous,” fan Karla Boehm told the station. “Women need their purses!”
WCCO-TV reports that the team is following policy set by the NFL in the aftermath of the bombings at the Boston Marathon. The league decided to ban most bags and purses from stadiums. Backpacks, diaper bags, and fanny packs are not allowed.
Fans can bring in a purse if it’s a small clutch. Clear bags are allowed.
“This is about keeping fans safe. Obviously there is going to be some inconveniences,” said Jeff Anderson, Vikings’ Director of Corporate Communications told KARE. “We expect some hiccups early on, but then once fans get accustomed to it, we actually think this will expedite entry into the stadium,” said Anderson.
Fans will be able to check their bags for the first few games of the season as they become accustomed to the new policy.
