The Miami Heat got big points when they needed them from their two big stars, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, to defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves 102-92 in Miami Saturday night.
Wade scored 25 and Bosh scored 24 to blunt a comeback by the Wolves late in the fourth quarter and hand Minnesota their second straight loss, the Associated Press reports.
The Wolves were led by Nikola Pekovic, who finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Timberwolves.
“We battled, tinkered around, had the strong guys out there,” Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said, according to NBA.com. “We got a couple of groups together that played hard. That was a positive to build on.”
Thaddeus Young scored 16 and Shabazz Muhammad had 13 for Minnesota.
Miami led by as much as 20 points, 47-27, late in the first half but the Wolves cut the lead to 12 at halftime, 53-41.
The Wolves made a 12-0 run in the fourth quarter to get within four points, 90-86, with 4:28 left in the game. Kevin Martin led the way with three straight 3-pointers.
But that was as close as the Wolves would get. Wade and Bosh combined to score Miami’s final 12 points to get the win.
The Wolves were without their starting point guard Ricky Rubio, is who is out indefinitely with a severely sprained ankle which he suffered in Friday night’s loss to the Orlando Magic.
Zach LaVine started in Rubio’s place, and with him and Andrew Wiggins on the floor together, Minnesota became the first team in nine years to start two teenagers, NBA.com reports.
The Timberwolves’ next game is in Mexico City on Wednesday night, when they will go up against Houston.
