Believe it or not, the Timberwolves are good.
Through 10 games, their record of 7 wins and 3 losses is their best start to a season since winning 9 of 10 to begin the 2001-02 season. What’s more is that this is just the seventh time in franchise history they’ve had a winning record after 10 games.
- 2017: 7-3
- 2013: 6-4
- 2004: 6-4
- 2001: 9-1
- 2000: 6-4
- 1998: 8-2
- 1997: 6-4
Do the math: In 29 seasons as an NBA franchise, they’ve been .500 or worse after 10 games 22 times.
If the Wolves win their next game, the entire NBA is going to take notice.
We’re talking about Wednesday’s matchup with the defending champion Golden State Warriors – a chance to make a statement and show the world that they’re among the best in the West.
Wolves-Warriors. Oracle Arena. National TV. Star power galore: Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, Jimmy Butler and Jeff Teague against Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
“We feel like we can beat anybody as long as we do what we do,” Wiggins told GoMN’s Declan Goff after Sunday’s win over the Hornets.
“It’d be a huge win,” Teague told GoMN. “They’re the defending champs, a great team – best team in the NBA. It’s going to be a challenge. They play really well at home. If you want to be a good team you gotta go up against those guys, so we’ll see where we’re at.”
According to Karl-Anthony Towns, it’s just another game.
Win or lose, Minnesota is sitting on an opportunity to let the entire NBA know they’re for real.
