Eduardo Rodriguez could’ve very well been traded to the Twins a week ago but the Tigers held onto the All-Star lefty and he helped Detroit shut out Minnesota 6-0 Tuesday night.
Rodriguez tossed seven innings and allowed just four hits while striking out five and walking three. All four hits he allowed were singles.
“The impressive thing is that he did all of that without his best pitch,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said, via ESPN. “He couldn’t find his cutter, so it was fastball and changeup.”
Miguel Cabrera had two hits for the Tigers, the second of which put him at 3,142 for his career, passing Tony Gwynn and tying Robin Yount for 19th place in MLB history.
Sonny Gray pitched six innings for the Twins. He struck out 10 and allowed three runs, though only two runs were earned due to a throwing error in the first inning by Jorge Polanco.
The loss snaps Minnesota’s five-game win streak. Cleveland beat Toronto so the Twins’ lead in the AL Central is down to 4.5 games.
