Sporting News has a report out saying teams will likely be calling the Timberwolves about trading for Ricky Rubio once NBA free agency cools down a bit.
Sean Deveney is the writer and spoke with an unnamed NBA general manager, who said: “He won’t be on that team for long. But the longer they hold on to him, the more teams they’ll have who would be willing to give up something for him.”

With Mike Conley headlining a relatively weak class of free-agent point guards, teams could be calling the Wolves for Rubio’s service. Deveney adds that by mid-July, teams such as the 76ers, Rockets and Bucks could be interested.
The Wolves talked about a deal with Milwaukee last February but Minnesota reportedly wanted Khris Middleton in return – which was something the Bucks were not on board with.
The Wolves could take a similar path to what the Boston Celtics did with Rajon Rondo after they drafted Marcus Smart. Rondo played 20 games with the Celtics before being traded in December.
