Minnesota Wild center Mikael Granlund had a heck of a week and the NHL took notice. He was named the league’s second star of the week that ended on Sunday.
Granlund has been playing some of the best hockey of his career recently. He ranked tied for first in the NHL with six points last week (3 goals, 3 assists). He also posted a plus 6 rating over Minnesota’s three games and extended his point streak to a franchise-record and NHL season-high 12 games.
Granlund capped off the week with his first career hat trick Saturday in Minnesota’s 6-3 victory over Vancouver.
Granlund has been one of the big reasons for the Wild’s success this year. He leads Minnesota with 48 points (15 goals, 33 assists) in 51 games – already new career highs in both goals and points.
The Wild are at Winnipeg Tuesday night.
