The Wild had no trouble with the Vancouver Canucks as they walloped them 6-2 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Thursday night.
There was no drama in this one as Charlie Coyle took a flip pass and turned it into a breakaway goal just 5:37 into the first period and the Wild never looked back.
Mikko Koivu added a first-period goal when he intercepted a pass and found an open net, and the rout was really on when Nino Niederreiter, Eric Staal and Matt Dumb scored in the second period.
Jason Zucker’s goal just over five minutes into the third period made it a 6-1 game.
Minnesota is now 6-1-2 at home and 12-5-2 with 26 points on the season. Only the Predators and Lightning, each with 27 points, have gotten off to a better start than the Wild.
Not bad for a team that started the season with just one win in its first five games.
Note: Zach Parise did not play Thursday night because of an illness.
