The Minnesota Wild continue to trim their training camp roster down as they get ready to open the regular season next week.
Wednesday the Wild announced they were assigning Jordan Schroeder, Kurtis Gabriel, Hunter Warner, and Alex Tuch to the team’s AHL affiliate in Iowa.
Minnesota also placed Tyler Graovac on waivers. He’ll also report to Iowa if he clears waivers tomorrow. Head coach Bruce Boudreau was upset with the way Graovac played in training camp.
“It’s just important that he competes a little harder,” Boudreau told the Star Tribune’s Michael Russo. “I mean, he’s a guy that’s 6-foot-4, 200 and some pounds. Everyone wants that kind of guy. But the job was there for him and he just didn’t take it.”
Graovac, 23, was a seventh-round draft pick by the Wild in 2011. He played the past three seasons with Iowa, scoring 39 goals.
While Tuch was Minnesota’s first-round pick in 2014. He spent the last two seasons with Boston College and signed with the Wild in April.
According to Russo, the moves leave Joel Eriksson Ek, Zac Dalpe, Christoph Bertschy and Ryan Carter vying for a spot at forward and Mike Reilly, Nate Prosser and Christian Folin battling for one on defense.
Minnesota opens the season Oct. 13 against St. Louis.
