How do you define what makes a Stanley Cup winning team?
It’s hard to quantify, given that every winner contains varying qualities.
It’s kinda like one of those “you know it when you see it” deals … just like porn.
Wait…what?
Those aren’t our words, but the words of Minnesota Wild owner Craig Leipold.
When asked what he wants the Wild to become, the first analogy that came to his mind was that of pornography.
“You know they’re a good team, but they’re not good enough right now. What’s defined as good enough? You know, I guess it’s like pornography, when you see it you know it.”
That’s right. Leipold wants the Wild to have that same, definable quality as pornography, presumably playing their home games at the X-rated Energy Center?

Leipold was probably referencing the “I know it when I see it” phrase that gained national attention in 1964 when U.S. Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart used it trying to define obscene material. More on that right here.
Even if that’s the case, it’s still a damn weird thing to bring up to describe a hockey team.
The Wild must think so too, because they didn’t include the porn reference in the video they released, but KSTP’s Darren Wolfson did and you can see that right here.
Anyway, the fun police are going to be all over Leipold for this one, but give the guy a break, he had just gotten done firing longtime general manager Chuck Fletcher.
