Minnesota Wild goaltender Alex Stalock was claimed off waivers by the Edmonton Oilers on Monday, ending a run of four-plus seasons with the team.
A native of South St. Paul, Stalock compiled a record of 37-30-11 and a 2.77 goals against average with the Wild. Stalock spent most of his time as a backup, but made made a career-high 36 starts and 20 wins during the 2019-20 season.
Stalock has been on the injured list for all of the 2021 season with an upper-body injury and was placed on the team’s COVID-19 list. While Stalock was preparing to return to the ice, he fell on the wrong end of a log jam at goaltender.
The Wild signed Cam Talbot to be their starter in free agency, but injuries have led to Minnesota relying on Kappo Kahkonen. The 24-year-old leads the Wild in starts this season going 11-8-4 with a 2.41 GAA.
