Patrick Kane’s backhanded goal in overtime beat Ilya Bryzgalov and lifted the Chicago Blackhawks to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Wild in Game 6.
With the victory the Blackhawks clinched the series and ended Minnesota’s season.
It was the first loss of the postseason at the Xcel Energy Center for the Wild.
The Wild had many chances to score in both the third period and early in overtime, but momentum began to switch as overtime continued and then Kane found the net after taking advantage of the break.
Chicago took the early lead as Kris Versteeg deflected a shot into the net, less than two minutes into the game. The score remained 1-0 through the remainder of the first period.
Erik Haula evened the score at one, with his fourth goal of the playoffs. Haula was assisted by Matt Cooke and Clayton Stoner. It was the only goal in an action-packed second period that saw both teams have multiple chances to score, but both Chicago’s Corey Crawford and the Wild’s Bryzgalov made incredible stops.
Minnesota was 0 of 3 on the power play and outshot Chicago 35-27.
Chicago will move on and face the winner of the series between Anaheim and Los Angeles. Minnesota’s season comes to an end after advancing to the Western Conference semifinals.
