The Minnesota Wild’s schedule for the 2021 season was released on Monday and the team will begin its 56-game campaign with a game at the Los Angeles Kings on Jan. 14.
The opener against the Kings will mark the sixth straight time that the Wild have opened the season on the road and kick off a four-game road trip, the longest such trip to open a season in franchise history.
The Wild’s schedule will also have a different feel to it thanks to the NHL’s realignment plan for the 2021 season. In order to avoid the complications of crossing the Canadian border during the COVID-19 pandemic, the NHL enacted a one-year realignment that placed the Wild in the West Division.
As part of the schedule, the Wild will play Anaheim, Arizona, Colorado, Los Angeles, San Jose, St. Louis, and Vegas eight times this season.
In addition to the regular-season schedule, the NHL announced that the Stanley Cup Playoffs will begin on May 11 in the traditional best-of-seven format. Game times for the schedule will be announced at a later date.
