It’s not time to panic, but you may have noticed that Andrew Wiggins is in a miniature slump.
Wiggins’ last three games:
- Portland: 17 points (6-15 shooting)
- Clippers: 8 points (3-15 shooting)
- Lakers: 19 points (7-16 shooting)
The reason he’s struggling to find his scoring touch? Defenses are focusing on him, frequently doubling him when he gets the ball in the post.
“Just a lot of bodies,” Wiggins explained, via the Star Tribune. “Driving the lane and coming off a pick-and-roll, I see a lot of bodies, waiting.”
The same three-game stretch has been a slump-buster for rookie Karl-Anthony Towns.
In the five games leading up to the most recent three games, Towns posted scoring totals of 6, 6, 7, 17 and 6 points. But the last three have been much better:
- Portland: 27 points, 12 rebounds
- Clippers: 18 points, 5 rebounds
- Lakers: 26 points, 14 rebounds
Wiggins and Towns are the future of the Wolves, so as long as they both don’t go quiet for long stretches the Wolves should be able to compete in most games.
Minnesota has an 8 p.m. tipoff scheduled in Denver Friday night.
