After a few days of mea culpas and wait-’til-next-week declarations, it’s time to get serious about where the 0-2 Minnesota Vikings stand in relation to the NFL.
The answer? Well, my friend, that’s blowing in the wind, but here’s where the football experts put the Vikes.
Let’s start with Pro Football Talk’s favorite mouth, Mike Florio, who has the team at number 25, down from 18 last week:”With 54 points scored in two losses, maybe the passing game isn’t the problem.”
USA Today also has the Vikings slipping, this time four spots, to number 25: “Browns, who are allowing 2.0 yards per rush, might not be the breather the Vikings badly need.”
CBS Sports has the Vikings one notch higher at 24, down one spot from last week: “They have two tough losses to open the season, and the loss to the Bears was especially tough. They aren’t getting enough out of their passing game.”
There is little faith in the purple at NFL.com, which rates Minnesota at number 26 (and the NFL says it’s Week 3, but we will go with Week 2 because the rankings reflect the second week of the season): “If not for their defense and special teams, the Vikings wouldn’t have even been in the game.”
Finally, ESPN puts the Vikes at 23 (!), and has this insight into Adrian Peterson: “Adrian Peterson has 200 yards on 40 rushes inside the tackles this season and four rushes for minus-7 yards outside the tackles.”
