The Gophers football team put on an entertaining spring game Thursday night at TCF Bank Stadium, and perhaps the most exciting part of it came when head coach P.J. Fleck stopped the game.
It happened after a fumble. Fleck stopped the game and instructed the entire crowd to turn its attention to the video board for a surprise.
Sam Renner is a redshirt junior defensive end from Maple Grove, and he had no idea he was about to receive a scholarship after walking on a freshman three years ago.

“It was an absolute dream,” Renner said in an interview with Big Ten Network. “It’s something that you always dream about but you never know if it’s going to happen, and it finally did come true after three years here.”
Renner said he had a 3.2 GPA when Fleck arrived last season, but Fleck has pushed him and it’s resulted in a perfect 4.0 GPA.
