“I am anchoring @SportsCenter tonight with @michaeleaves and if this is not the #1 play on #SCtop10 I will resign.”
Those are the words tweeted Sunday night by SportsCenter anchor John Buccigross after he saw video of Amy Potomak’s ridiculous shootout goal in the Gophers’ (10-1-1) border battle with rival Wisconsin (10-1-1) on Sunday.
After a 2-2 regulation tie, Potomak skated to center ice for the shootout and dazzled with the smoothest between-the-legs goal you’ll ever see. Buccigross has not resigned because it was SportsCenter’s No. 1 play of the day.
Second-ranked Minnesota took five points from No. 1 Wisconsin over the weekend, so everyone should fully expect to see the Gophers ranked No. 1 in the national polls when they’re released on Monday.
Potomak is a redshirt sophomore from Aldergrove, British Columbia. Her sister, Sarah Potomak, is a redshirt senior who also scored in Sunday’s game.
Minnesota plays an exhibition Tuesday against the Natalie Darwitz-led Hamline Pipers. The puck drops inside Ridder Arena at 7:07 p.m. The next WCHA action for the Gophers is at home against Bemidji State on Nov. 15-16.
