Christmas came early for Gophers fans on Saturday with an unexpected win over Wisconsin for the first time since 2003.
One Gophers fan was so thirsty for a win over the border battle that he cleansed his negativity by jumping through a hole in the ice into the frigid waters of Gull Lake near Brainerd.

Miah Becker followed through on his claim that he was going to “Cleanse myself of my supposed #negativity in the waters of Gull Lake.” He was responding to a tweet from GopherHole that asked fans what they would do if Minnesota won.
Becker posted a series of tweets, including photos of an icepick and a hole he carved out on the ice.
Once victory was clinched, he ran outside in a t-shirt with shorts and flip flops while carrying an oar over his head while yelling the Gophers’ slogan “Row The Boat.”
Meanwhile, if you’d like some ice safety guidelines, do note these tips from the DNR.
- Ice fishing/on foot – 4 inches
- Snowmobile/ATV – 5-7 inches
- Car/small truck – 8-12 inches
- Medium truck – 12-15 inches
Earlier this week the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, which is a county north of Gull Lake, told people stay off the ice this early in the season and to supplement their desires for fish by buying “some fish sticks from the frozen section of the store.”
