Brian Dozier is not a pitcher.
Eduardo Escobar is a professional hitter and he’s in the midst of a career year.
Two two former Twins teammate met up in a peculiar way Saturday night, and it went a heckuva lot better for Escobar than it did for Dozier.
If you watch the video closely, you can see Escobar smiling as Dozier delivers the pitch.
Dozier was inserted as a pitcher because the Diamondbacks were drubbing his Nationals, and Escobar did a lot of the damage, going 3-for-5 with a pair of homers and seven RBI.
For the season, Escobar is hitting .282/.339/.536 with 24 homers, 20 doubles, nine triples and 88 RBI. His 88 RBI ranks second in the majors, trailing Pittsburgh’s Josh Bell (89) by one for the MLB lead.
Minnesota traded Escobar to the Diamondbacks in July 2018 in exchange for three minor league players, including right-handed pitcher Jhoan Duran, who throws 100 mph and is having a nice season at Double-A Pensacola.
The Twins traded Dozier to the Dodgers four days after they traded Escobar, but things haven’t gone as well for Dozier, who is hitting .239 with 15 homers in his first season with the Nationals.
