In a career full of landmarks, Saints quarterback Drew Brees keeps passing up former Minnesota signal callers as he inches closer to a big one.
Brees, who came into New Orleans’ Thursday night contest against Atlanta just 38 yards short of passing former Viking Warren Moon for fifth on the all-time passing list, did so in the first quarter, hitting running back Pierre Thomas for 18 yards and a spot in the top five.
Moon, who played three seasons with Minnesota, spent much of his career with Houston.
Brees passed Viking legend Fran Tarkenton, who called himself the greatest quarterback to ever play the game earlier this week, in Week 4 against Miami.
Brees now sits just 2,000 yards behind John Elway for fourth, and then faces a long road to get to Dan Marino, Peyton Manning, and all-time leader Brett Favre.
The Saints are looking to improve on their Viking-inverse record of 8-2, as Brees has already connected on two touchdowns.
