A Minnesota Vikings executive who lost his sister to cancer in October has donated $1 million to a children’s hospital to help families fighting the disease.
Kevin Warren and his wife Greta have agreed to donate the money to the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital to establish a new charity fund called “Carolyn’s Comforts,” which helps families of children suffering from cancer, according to Vikings.com.
The executive vice-president lost his sister Carolyn Warren-Knox to brain cancer in October at the age of 67, and her long battle with the illness inspired him to help others suffering from the disease.
“Families should be able to focus entirely on the health and well-being of their child and ideally, not be burdened with the additional stress of financial issues,” he told Vikings.com.
“My sister often talked of the struggles facing cancer patients, especially children and their families, and how she wished she could help; as a family we hope this fund can make a positive impact.”
The hospital is expected to use the money in various ways, such as providing accommodation and home comforts to families of children undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, according to the Business Journal.
