The Minnesota Vikings are working with authorities to find out who threw a beer can in the direction of players during Sunday night’s game against the New Orleans Saints at U.S. Bank Stadium.
The beer can, which wasn’t empty, was thrown at Saints players as they celebrated in the end zone after cornerback P.J. Williams intercepted Kirk Cousins and returned it for a touchdown.
Who threw the can is unknown at this point, the Vikings say.
“Safety for all players, coaches, officials, staff and fans is a priority during Vikings games at U.S. Bank Stadium. The incident last night is a clear violation of our fan code of conduct,” the team’s statement reads.
“While stadium security responded immediately upon being notified of the situation, they were unable to determine at that time who was responsible. We are currently working with WESS Security and local law enforcement in an effort to identify the individual and hold him/her accountable for these unacceptable actions.”
Saints player Justin Hardee was the first to pick up the half-empty can, saying “they threw beer on us.”

Three Saints players told Nola.com that they felt the beer hit them, including Chris Banjo, who raced down the sideline saluting fans with the can held high.

It’s unfortunate, really. We thought Eagles fans were the ones who threw beer cans at people.
