Groundbreaking for the new Minnesota Vikings stadium will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 3, the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority announced Tuesday.
WCCO-TV reports that the MSFA will meet with Mortensen Construction — the company in charge of constructing the stadium — on Friday to approve a maximum price agreement of $975 million for the stadium.
According to the Pioneer Press, shovels can’t go in the ground until the guaranteed maximum price is set.
While last-minute negotiations to ensure the stadium fits the $975 million budget have been ongoing, none of the stadium’s main features will change, according to Minnesota Public Radio.
“All the major features that were included in the building before are still there,” said MSFA Chairwoman Michele Kelm-Helgen. “You won’t see any major differences in the architecture or the functioning of the building.”
The new stadium is schedule to open July 1, 2016. While the venue is being built, the Vikings will play the 2014 and 2015 seasons at TCF Bank Stadium.
