The Minnesota Vikings have stopped the turnover at least at one position during free agency, agreeing with kicker Dan Bailey on a three-year deal.
Bailey’s time in Minnesota got off to a rocky start as he hit just 21-of-28 (75%) of his field-goal attempts in 2018. After he beat out Kaare Vedvik in training camp, Bailey turned things around in 2019, converting 27-of-29 field goal attempts and his 93.1 field goal percentage ranked fourth in the NFL.
The decision to retain Bailey is one that stops the Vikings’ kicker carousel that has been spinning since 2016 when the Vikings released Blair Walsh. Since then, the Vikings have had four different kickers and have traded for kickers twice with minimal results.
If the 2019 season was a thing to come, it suggests Bailey has regained the form that made him one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history before coming to Minnesota.
Along with punter Britton Colquitt, who re-signed with the Vikings earlier this week, Vikings ensured they will have the same duo in place at least for the next three seasons.
