The Vikings signed Pro Bowl defensive end Everson Griffen to a four-year contract extension on Wednesday.
Ian Rapoport of NFL network notes the deal is worth up to $58 million, with $34 million guaranteed.
He already had two years remaining on his original deal, which means he’s under contact through the 2022 season.
Griffen told reporters at training camp in Mankato, “It means I’m a Viking for life.”
Griffen has made back-to-back Pro Bowls while accumulating 18.5 sacks over the last two seasons. Under his current contract, Griffen will make a base salary of $6.9 million in 2017-18.
Minnesota drafted Griffen in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He’s missed just one game over the last six seasons.
Griffen will turn 30 years old at the end of the 2017 season.
Since entering the league, he’s racked up 48 sacks and 158 tackles for the Vikings defense.
And he’s rebounded from a rocky introduction, including two arrests and a headline-grabbing canceled Super Bowl party.
