With 22/1 odds, Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter is tied for the fifth-best odds to win the 2017 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award, according to Bovada.
Texans defensive end J.J. Watt is the favorite, followed by the two most disruptive linebackers in the league, Khalil Mack of the Raiders and Von Miller of the Broncos.
- J.J. Watt: 7/2
- Khalil Mack, Von Miller: 5/1
- Joey Bosa: 9/1
- Aaron Donald, Luke Keuchly: 14/1
- Danielle Hunter, 5 others: 22/1
Kwon Alexander, Jadeveon Clowney, Landon Collins, Bobby Wagner and Ryan Shazier are tied with Hunter with 22/1 odds.
Hunter, 22, was third in the NFL with 12.5 sacks last season despite never starting. This season he’s lined up to start at left end ahead of Brian Robinson for the first time in his young career.
“I don’t really put a number out there because that’s just limiting myself,” Hunter told GoMN last week when asked if he has a sack total in mind for 2017 (he also talked about rompers).
Fans got a preview of Minnesota’s deadly defensive line during Saturday’s training camp night scrimmage in Mankato. According to the Vikings, Hunter and Pro Bowl defensive end Everson Griffen made easy work of the offensive line and were routinely in the backfield for would-be sacks on Sam Bradford.
