The Vikings activated wide receiver Michael Floyd on Monday afternoon, and released recently signed running back Stevan Ridley.
Ridley signed with the Vikings just four days ago on Oct. 5, after the team lost rookie running back Dalvin Cook.
With Ridley cut, Minnesota has just three running backs – one who’s technically a fullback in C.J. Ham – on the active roster. Apparently the team is content with Latavius Murray and Jerick McKinnon carrying the rock out of the backfield.
Minnesota’s active roster also features seven wide receivers: Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Jarius Wright, Laquon Treadwell, Rodney Adams, Stacy Coley and Floyd.
Both Adams and Coley are rookies from this year’s draft class. Clearly, the Vikings didn’t feel comfortable putting a rookie on their practice squad, where they could be snatched up from an opposing team.
Floyd missed the first four games of the 2017 season because of a suspension in connection with an extreme DUI arrest from last season (when he was with the Arizona Cardinals).
