Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield played in Sunday’s season opener against Jacksonville days after his brother, Anthony Travis, 30, was shot to death in Akron, Ohio.
According to John Holler at VikingsUpdate, “The team kept the story under wraps and few outside the organization were aware that Winfield was practicing late last week and playing Sunday with an extraordinarily heavy heart.”
On KFAN-FM, Winfield said he was “real close” to his younger brother, who he saw every time he went home. “He was a real lighthearted guy,” Winfield told on-air host Paul Allen Monday.
After the game, GamedayGold.com’s Eric Nelson interviewed Winfield, but the cornerback kept his comments focused on the game.
