Anthony Barr’s mother, Lori Barr, was a single mom at 19 years old.
She worked two jobs while taking college classes – eventually earning her bachelors degree and masters.
And now the Pro Bowl linebacker is launching a foundation to help single moms.
Starting June 4, The Anthony Barr Foundation will give financial support to single mothers to help further their education. According to the foundation’s website, of the 12 million single-parent families in the United States, more than 80 percent are headed by women.
Country Health rankings says in Minnesota, 28 percent of kids are raised by single parents.
Barr hopes to raise $155,000 in the first year of the foundation to provide 10 single mothers with a $10,000 scholarship. Mothers who are interested in the scholarship can click here.
