According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Vikings and Dolphins nearly completed the long-mooted Dalvin Cook trade back in March.
“Minnesota and Miami came very close to a trade that would’ve made Cook a Dolphin back in March,” Breer writes in his latest column.
No details were offered on what the deal was or even why the trade fell apart.
The #Vikings and #Dolphins nearly completed a trade in March that would've sent RB Dalvin Cook to Miami, per @AlbertBreer. Miami added to their backfield a month later, using a 3rd-round pick on Texas A&M's Devon Achane.

Breer also notes that the Vikings looked at using Cook more sparingly, as a change of pace compliment to Alexander Mattison, if they were able to bring him back on a smaller contract.
The Vikings don’t necessarily need to move on from Cook but with big extensions for Justin Jefferson and T.J. Hockenson likely in the future it appears a decision on the running back is coming sooner rather than later.
Minnesota can open up $11 million in cap space with a Cook trade while taking on $3.1 million dead cap hit this season.
