A Twitter campaign launched in an effort to put Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson in touch with a gravely ill New York teenager was successful.
Peterson on Monday called 17-year-old Blake Cognata in his Rochester, N.Y., hospital bed, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported. Cognata is batting a rare form of cancer called Ewing’s sarcoma that is attacking his bones.
The five-minute call, which left the teen awestruck, according to his mother, was made not long after a grassroots #APCallBlake Twitter campaign was started by an acquaintance, the newspaper reported.
Cognata’s mother said Peterson and her son talked about faith. The Vikings star told Cognata not to give up, and he gave the teen his cell phone number, she said.
