The Minnesota Vikings and the rest of the NFL are scheduled to begin training camp July 28, though what happens between then and the scheduled start of the regular season in September is unknown.
For now, the NFL is planning a full 17-week schedule, but COVID-19 could change the situation, and by all accounts the threat of spreading the disease will lead to, at best, significantly reduced capacity at games.
While some teams have already announced limited capacity scenarios, the Vikings continue to monitor the situation. They are however giving season ticket holders the chance to opt out of their 2020 plan now.
“We can acknowledge at this time that if we are allowed to play in front of fans, games will be at a significantly reduced capacity and include a different in-stadium experience. We are planning around a number of those scenarios now and will provide an update as soon as possible,” the Vikings said in a letter to season ticket holders.
Season ticket holders have been given the following two options at this time:
– Keep your tickets and if games are canceled or reduced capacity is implemented, “a credit for the portion of your paid 2020 season tickets applicable to the missed game(s) will automatically be applied to your account, unless you request a full refund for the missed 2020 game(s).”
– Opt out of your 2020 season tickets without any negative impact. In this case, your account will be credited toward the 2021 season ticket package, or you can request a full refund for 2020 tickets.
In the event that games are played at a limited capacity, priority will be given to Stadium Builder’s License (SBL) owners. More information about priority will be announced in the near future, the Vikings said.
“We continue to work on increased safety protocols to protect the health of our fans, players, staff members and the broader community for home games at U.S. Bank Stadium. While we do not yet know all of the policies and procedures that will be implemented, we will comply with NFL rules, as well as state and federal regulations, and will approve any plans with the Governor’s office,” the team said.
The Vikings are slated to open the regular season against the Packers at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 13.
