The Minnesota Vikings added another body to their interior defensive line on Monday acquiring P.J. Hall from the Las Vegas Raiders for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2021.
Hall was a second-round pick by the Raiders in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Sam Houston State, after putting up freakish numbers at that year’s draft combine. Although he proved to be a workout warrior, Hall’s athleticism never translated to the field with just 1.5 sacks and 48 total tackles in two seasons with the Raiders.
The acquisition of Hall should help out a defensive line that has been ravaged by COVID-19 in the early weeks of training camp. Free-agent acquisition Michael Pierce opted out of the 2020 season last week due to COVID-19 concerns and defensive end Ifeadi Odenigbo was placed on the COVID-19/reserve list last week.
While Hall is a low-risk acquisition to help that cause, he fits in the mold of what the Vikings look for in defensive tackle prospects with high athleticism. Even if the Vikings can turn him into a role player, Hall could be a solid acquisition to help even things out in 2020.
