With U.S. Bank Stadium well over half way done, it may seem like a distant memory now, but it was just five years ago Saturday when the Metrodome roof collapsed under the weight of a major snow storm in the Twin Cities.
The storm, which began on Dec. 11, 2010 dumped just over 17 inches of snow on downtown Minneapolis. WCCO notes that it upped Minnesota’s total to around 34 inches already that winter.

It was early Sunday morning and the Vikings were scheduled to host the New York Giants. It had already been a tough season, the Vikings were 5-and-7 and fighting to stay relevant after Brad Childress was let go less than one year after leading them to the NFC Championship game.
Just after 5 a.m. on Sunday Dec. 12 – less than seven hours before game time – the roof gave way.

The game was moved to Ford Field in Detroit, and played on Monday night, where the Vikings fell to the Giants 21-3.
