Playing through a quick shot of rain and some beautiful skies at Target Field, the Kansas City Royals continued to play solid baseball as they beat the Twins Monday night 6-4 to take three of four games in the series at Target Field.
The Royals have now won 21 of their last 26 games and eight series in a row.
Trevor May (0-2) made his long awaited Target Field debut, and it was much better than his previous two appearances in a Twins uniform, but still not quite good enough.
May was cruising through the first four innings, but he ran into trouble in the fifth as he walked three Royals hitters, and three two-out hits gave Kansas City the lead.
That was enough for Jason Vargas (10-5), whose only stumble came in the seventh on a solo home run from Oswaldo Arcia. Vargas has allowed the Twins just three earned runs in 28 innings against them this season.
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was thrown out of the game, arguing with the umpires after a foul ball appeared to hit the dirt off the bat of Joe Mauer, before it came to rest in Salvador Perez’s glove.
Five different Royals had at least two hits. Former Twins outfielder Josh Willingham was 3-for-5 with three singles in the game. Erik Kratz, who pinch hit for Perez, was 2-for-2 with a pair of home runs.
After a scoreless eighth from Wade Davis, the Twins made a late charge against Aaron Crow, who was on in the ninth.
Trailing 6-1, both Kennys Vargas and Arcia reached base, before Trevor Plouffe blasted a three-run homer into left field to cut Kansas City’s lead to two.
3-run homer for Plouffe off Crow. Guess now we know why Ned had Holland up.

Kansas City closer Greg Holland came on with one out after the Plouffe homer to close it out to pick up his 38th save.
The Twins open a three-game series with Cleveland on Tuesday.
